FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 16, 2009 -- 1. Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and hot water before handling raw poultry or eggs.
2. Keep raw meat and fish away from other food, and if you are staying in an apartment, always keep raw food on the bottom shelf of the fridge so juices cannot drip onto other food below.

3. Never eat food in a holiday hotel that has been left out at room temperature for more than one hour. Salmonella is particularly prevalent in holiday package hotels where all-inclusive buffets are left at room temperature for hours on end. Salmonella and norovirus cause thousands of cases of holiday illness every year, and can result in the victims claiming compensation against the holiday tour operators.
4. Hot food should be kept hot and cold food should be kept cold. If you see any evidence that this is not the case in your holiday hotel or on board a cruise ship, complain to the manager or to your holiday rep straight away. Mayonnaise-based foods should be kept chilled to prevent food poisoning in your holiday hotel.

5. If staff at your holiday package hotel have made up a picnic for you, make sure you carry the food in a cooler with ice. Make sure the cooler or cool box is kept in the shade and opened as little as possible. Also ensure the food handlers at your holiday hotel are wearing plastic gloves to prevent salmonella and food poisoning.
6. Food handlers at your holiday hotel or on board a cruise ship should never handle money, which is often contaminated with human faeces and can cause food poisoning, salmonella and norovirus.
7. All salad ingredients at the salad bar should be on ice. If not, skip the salad bar to prevent food poisoning on holiday. Also, never eat salad dressing that is left out on the salad bar and is uncovered and un-chilled.

8. Buffet foods at holiday hotels and on board cruise ships should be bought out in small batches to ensure it is kept hot/cold depending on the dish. Each dish should have its own serving spoon to ensure that any bacteria are not passed from one dish to another.

9. Holiday hotel barbecues can be another hazard. To avoid salmonella poisoning or norovirus on holiday, make sure all meat is cooked thoroughly and if you think it is raw, or undercooked, don´t eat it. Hamburgers, for example should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees. Salmonella poisoning on holiday can be deadly. If you suffer food poisoning or salmonella poisoning in a holiday hotel or on board a cruise ship through no fault of your own in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal or any other country in the world, you should contact a personal injury solicitor when you return to the UK who specialises in holiday illness compensation claims.
