1000 Gamers to Converge on LAX Radisson Labor Day Weekend
400 plus events include Rock Band tourney, board game design competition, and $4000 in tournament prizes.

Los Angeles, Aug. 3, 2010 -- Gateway Games Convention returns to the LAX Radisson Labor Day Weekend (Friday thru Monday) with 400 different events and $4000 in prizes. Join 1000 gamers for a holiday weekend full of games -- board games, card games, miniature war games, video games, even Live Action Role playing. Special events include family game day, a Saturday night Rock Band tourney, a game design competition, and a series of Magic The Gathering Tournaments hosted by Sun Mesa Games.
Sunday, Sept. 5, family day hosts special events and special pricing geared toward fun for the entire family. Special Sunday-only family rates -- $50 for the entire family (two adults and up to five children under 16).
Aspiring game designers will have the chance to compete for a publishing deal, at the 2nd Annual Rio Grande Games Design Competition for the Southern California. As a Regional Finalist, the winner will earn a chance to present his or her game to Rio Grande Games founder Jay Tummelson at the upcoming Chicago Toy & Game Fair. The competition will be held Sunday, Sept. 5. Deadline for registration at http://www.strategicon.net is August 21, 2010.
Fans will have a chance to meet special guests of honor, game inventors Tom Lehmann and Andy and Kristin Looney. Tom Lehman is the creator of the top seller Race for the Galaxy, as well as Jericho, and Middle Kingdom. He has also designed expansions for Race for the Galaxy, St. Petersburg and Pandemic. Andy and Kristin Looney, collectively known as "Looney Labs," are the brains behind such hits as Fluxx, Chrononauts, Aquarius, Are You the Traitor?, Treehouse, and Martian Coasters. You won't want to miss the slate of Guest of Honor tournaments including a massive Race for the Galaxy tourney, a Looney-athon, Fluxx playtests and the debut of Looney's Back to the Future card game.

General registration at the door, $50 per adult for the entire weekend; pre-registration (http://www.strategicon.net) price $40. Single day rates are available at the door. Sunday only, special family rate.
Attendees can book ahead (1-800-333-3333) and ask for the special convention room rate of $109 per night. Valet parking is free for one car per hotel room.
Strategicon hosts three games tournaments in Los Angeles each year, Orccon (Presidents Day Weekend), Gamex (Memorial Day), and Gateway (Labor Day).
