Everyone on the job site said it couldn't be done. The glass was scratched from top to bottom, some quite significantly. You most definitely could catch your fingernail on most of the scratches. There was no way anyone could repair over 1000 sq. ft. of glass in both a timely manner and also make it look as if no damage ever occurred, they thought. Everyone expected distortion, haze and a big mess. The only alternative was to re-order the glass and re-install it at a cost of $210,000.00! By the time we arrived, another "scratched glass repair expert" had done their demo. The window was approximately 18" x 5'. They had (2) men resurface that window. However, it took 6 hours! We did our demo. (1) man, 1.5 hours! I wonder why we got the job?!
While the glass was very expensive and supposed to be of high quality, it still managed to contain fabricating debris. Our job was to not only remove the fabricating debris by resurfacing the damaged glass, but also restore all the scratched tempered glass to better than new condition. Add to this, the fact that many of the windows and doors have a southwest exposure, making it all that much more important to deliver a flawless job.

Then throw the fact that the trim was bronze with a dark patina finish! So we had to make sure nothing got onto that since it's a rather porous finish. Needless to say, things started out quite slowly. However, by day six, we were finished resurfacing all the glass! Afterward, we cleaned all the windows, including all the skylights, and finished them with a glass protectant! This wasn't required in our contract but we like to go above and beyond what our clients expect. Therefore we averaged over 170 sq. ft. per day or over 85 sq. ft. of fabricating debris glass resurfacing per man per day. Usually we can average over 125 sq. ft. per day, each man. We still got it done in a timely manner and everyone was satisfied with the flawless results.
