12 Year Old With Juvenile Diabetes Launches Company to Raise Over $35,000 For Research in 5 Years
A brave and determined 12 year old turned the worst day of her life into a day of hope and set out on a mission to help not herself, but thousands of other children instead.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 29, 2011 --
At 12 years old, when most kids were outside playing, Rachel Tobin became very ill with symptoms like lethargy, dizziness, and extreme thirst. Rachel’s pediatrician diagnosed her with type 1 diabetes, a chronic disease that children never outgrow.
However, what could have become the worst day of her life, Rachel graciously turned into a day of hope. She hopes that a cure will be found, and hopes that other children will not have to suffer as she does. Even at the young age of 12, Rachel was mature enough to know that she wanted to give back. She wanted to do something so that other kids her age did not have to experience this. She used her creative talents to design unique, hand-made beaded bracelets.
With the help of her family and community, Rachel began holding “beading parties” to meet the high demand for the bracelets. Rachel’s commitment shows as she carefully inspects each bracelet and adorns it with a “hope” charm.
A high school senior this year, Rachel has partnered with elite retailers and large, national non-profit organizations, who stand behind her jewelry and her cause. At only 17, Rachel has raised and donated over $35,000 to critical juvenile diabetes research.
When others would have curled up in a ball, Rachel was turning a negative into a positive. She has overcome adversity and inspired other youths to make the most of challenging situations. Rachel’s ultimate dream is to raise $100,000 for juvenile diabetes research
