FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 23, 2010 -- July 17, 2010 – New Castle, IN—less than an hour from the world famous Indy 500 racetrack more than 200 of America’s top kart racers gathered to compete in the 2010 Rotax US Grand National Championships. Kristina Vorndran, 15, from Dudley MA, was the youngest driver and only female to compete in the DD2 shifter class, the top category in the Rotax karting championship, this year.

Battling with race car drivers and karting world championship finalists on the latest chassis and engines, boasting many times her racing experience and budget she surprised many a competitor with her slightly used CRG Dark Rider kart packed with scores of lead weights to make up for her lack of interest in hamburgers.

With only two full seasons in the Junior kart class, Kristina decided to skip Seniors and move up to the Rotax DD2 shifter class in Spring 2010 where she only participated in 4 major races. She never had a chance to test her kart at the 1 mile, New Castle track, one of the fastest road courses in the country, before the national event.

During the official practice days and heat races, she constantly improved, posting the 3rd fastest time on race day in the morning warm up. Starting the Prefinal Race from 9th she had worked her way up to 4th place when the checkered flag fell posting the 3rd fastest time again with less than 2 tenth off the fastest lap set by 2009 World Finals podium sitter Cody Hodgson.

Chassis and engine setup did not cooperate as well with the higher track temperatures in the final race later that day, slowing the kart down by a few tenth but she still managed to finish 6th.

Kristina is a student of former Indy Car racer Lyn St James’ and was featured in the Daytona 500 Experience 'Women In The Winner's Circle' traveling exhibit at the 2010 Daytona 500 NASCAR race (http://www.daytona500experience.com/about_daytona_usa/news/555074.html).

She started racing in the Rotax Junior class in the Fall of 2007 and has been participating in the 2008 and 2009 Rotax US Grand Nationals as a Junior. She also participated in the 2010 Florida winter tour and has won several pole positions and races at her home tracks in NY and MA (more http://www.kristinavorndran.com).

Rotax BRP (http://rotaxmaxchallenge.com) is the most prominent international karting championship and largest karting community world wide with national race series in over 60 nations all racing under the same rules. According to Rotax, more than 50,000 of their kart engines are on the global market. Their race program caters to sophisticated young drivers as well as to businessmen and professionals.
