20 Hour SAFE Comprehensive Course and NMLS Mortgage Loan Originator Licensing

(Free-Press-Release.com) March 1, 2010 -- In 2008, Congress passed the SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act. This Act created the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System, or NMLS, and Registry for the residential mortgage industry. The Act sets forth procedures, requirements (including education and testing), and standards for mandatory registration and state licensing of Mortgage Loan Originators, or MLOs. It also requires the federal banking regulators to develop and maintain a system for registering depository institution employees as registered loan originators with the Registry.

By having all MLOs meet a national education and examination requirement, as well as required credit checks, it is the goal of NMLS and the Registry to weed out the non-professionals and focus on those who have always conducted business honestly. It will also assure that individuals entering the business will be held to the new, more stringent guidelines.
