2010 EPIC’s eBook Awards (formerly the EPPIES)

(Free-Press-Release.com) March 14, 2010 -- EPIC’s eBook Awards are the longest-standing and most inclusive awards in the e-publishing industry. Entries were received in thirty categories for fiction and non-fiction from around the world. Each entry received at least three reads from judges who are all published authors. Once the finalists were selected, the books were reviewed and rated by other judges to determine the winners.
During a formal, gala dinner concluding EPIC’s annual convention, EPICon, the winners were announced. . Publisher Daniel Reitz, Sr., acted as Master of Ceremonies.
WINNERS

The special Friend of e-Publishing Award for outstanding contribution to the world of e-publishing was presented to Rowena Cherry for her constant support and active involvement to educate the public about copyright theft and the negative impact of digital piracy.
The Patricia Lucas White Service Award, named in memory of one of EPIC’s earliest members and awarded for exemplary service to the EPIC organization. The nominees are suggested by the membership and voted on by all members. The 2010 award was presented to Debi Sullivan for her many years organizing EPIC’s eBook Awards.
The Quasar and Ariana awards recognize excellence in book cover design as determined by vote by a membership. The Ariana recognizes the best in category whereas the Quasar represents the best overall.

The 2010 Quasar winner is cover artist Jenifer Ranieri for The Chronicles of Kassouk Book One: White Tiger published by Desert Breeze Publishing, Inc.
The Dirk A. Wolf Honorable Mention Excellence in Cover Artwork Awards recognize excellence in cover design. The winner is determined by membership vote. Each of the covers selected for these awards received the second highest number of votes in its category.

NEW VOICES AWARDS
New Voices is an annual international writing competition for students between the ages of eleven and eighteen. Categories include essay, short story, and poetry.
New Voices is dedicated to encouraging young students to read and write, and to provide them an opportunity to showcase their work and receive feedback from professionals in the industry. Our aim is to promote ebook literacy in public, private, and home schools.

All New Voices entries were judged by a panel including teachers, librarians, published writers, publishers, and editors. All entrants received constructive feedback.
The finalists are published in the New Voices anthology and are invited to attend an awards ceremony at the EPICon convention. In addition, an ebook copy and a print copy are donated to the winner's school.
