2010 YWEEP Symposium Empowers Young Women in Trinidad and Tobago 
The Calabash Consortium's succeeded in its attempt to make a positive impact on the lives of attendees at its 2010 YWEEP Symposium

http://www.calabashconsortium.org/YWEEP The Calabash Consortium's 2010 Young Women's Education and Empowerment Program ("YWEEP") Symposium made its mark as a watershed event in young women’s empowerment, by delivering a riveting day of power-packed sessions which positively impacted the young female attendees this past Saturday at the Cascadia Hotel and Conference Centre, Port of Spain, Trinidad. The theme of the symposium was "I AM POWERFUL - She has the power to change her world; You have the power to help her do it." Young women and the numerous amazing speakers affirmed this theme as everyone left empowered in many ways.
United States Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, her Excellency Beatrice Welters urged attendees to continue to empower themselves while Senator and Minister Mary King spoke about the government's many initiatives to support the advancement of young women. The 2010 YWEEP Symposium comprised activities and workshops targeted at life and employability skills development, education and exposure to the myriad possibilities available to young women. The first session started with Natacha Jones, Producer/Radio Personality and Sallyann De la Casa Founder of the Growing Leaders Foundation having an informal chat with the young women about how they can empower themselves. Giselle Hudson, Master Mind Coach then enlightened attendees with one of the symposium's marquee session, "Living Not Existing - Passion Purpose Possibilities".
As the day progressed, Georgina Terry, CEO of BPD Associates conducted an insightful session on employment and the workplace, leaving young woman equipped with the tools to land their dream jobs. As with everything woman, fashion and image was on the agenda. Christopher Nathan, CEO, Coco Velvet Int’l Fashion & Model Management exposed women to everything needed to build a powerful personal brands and Karen Blackman from Moksha Yoga addressed health and wellness issues. "Financial Empowerment - Female Empowerment", was conducted by the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago's National Financial Literacy Programme, which provided participants with the tools to manage their finances well.
CEO of the Housing Development Company, Jearlean John along with fellow panelist Grace Talma, CEO of Grace Talma and Associates had everyone captivated with a candid and poignant discussion about what it takes for women to succeed in business. The 2010 YWEEP Symposium would not have been complete without the Calabash Consortium's signature MYjOURney program, the capstone of the day, which enabled participants to leverage all they had learned to chart a roadmap to success.
