Oct.22, 2010 in Hyundai cars
The all-new 2011 Hyundai Sonata hybrid car joins the race for the 2011 Green Car Of The Year award!
Green Car Journal has announced five candidates for the 2011 Green Car of the Year Award. The five selected finalists include Nissan Leaf electric car, Chevrolet Volt, Ford Fiesta, Lincoln MKZ hybrid and new Hyundai Sonata hybrid.
For the first time, the Green Car of the Year competition finalists include two primarily electric cars (Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf), two hybrid cars (2011 Hyundai Sonata hybrid, Lincoln MKZ) and a high mile-per-gallon, gasoline internal combustion engine powered vehicle (Ford Fiesta).
The award-winning vehicle will be announced during a press conference at the opening day of the 2010 L.A. Auto Show (November 18.)! Hopefully, this year’s Green Car Of The Year award goes to Hyundai Motor Company and its awesome 2011 Sonata hybrid car!
2011 Green Car Of The Year finalist highlights:
Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Car: first mass-produced mid-size hybrid car with high-tech lithium-polymer battery pack, achieves best-in-segment fuel economy numbers.
Nissan Leaf: a breakthrough full-electric vehicle, which is relatively affordable and gets decent mileage.
Chevrolet Volt: advanced powertrain technology, which makes it a unique vehicle among the rest of hybrid cars, good looks
Ford Fiesta: great mpg ratings without hybrid powertrain, unlike many other sub-compact cars, the Fiesta looks quite attractive.
Lincoln MKZ hybrid: features extremely efficient drivetrain. Other than that, nothing special.
Some words about the Green Car Of The Year award program:
The Green Car of the Year award program honors environmental leadership in the automobile industry and recognizes eco-friendly vehicles that become available to consumers during the award year.
For the first time, the Green Car of the Year® finalists include two primarily electric-drive vehicles in addition to two hybrids and a high mile-per-gallon, gasoline internal combustion engine.
#These five 2011 Green Car of the Year finalists reflect an auto industry in transition. It wasn’t long ago when electric drive was a novelty. Now, it’s expected that auto manufacturers will include electric drive in some form among their model offerings,” said editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, Ron Cogan.
Stay tuned for the latest news from the upcoming L.A. Auto Show, where Hyundai will be displaying its all-new 2011 Elantra sedan.
