2011 Leadership Study Shows Trend: Power to the People

CINCINNATI, February 1, 2011 -- Sherpa Executive Coaching released its sixth annual executive coaching survey online, today. The Sherpa Survey, the longest-running research of its kind, offers a look into the future based on years of trend analysis.
“I have been following the Sherpa Survey for years. It serves up fantastic information for coaches and the people who use them,” said Marshall Goldsmith, best-selling author and world’s leading coach.

This year’s report predicts a significant increase in personal development, because training budgets and the use of executive coaching will increase in 2011. Power to the people.
The Sherpa Survey offers four significant trends to watch this year:
• Demand for executive coaching is on the rise. Four out of five coaches anticipate higher demand in 2011.
• New standards for the industry are emerging. There is a shift among executive coaches to adopting published coaching processes.
• More HR professionals are hiring certified coaches. Four of five HR professionals say certification for executive coaches is “very important” or “absolutely essential.”

• After a pullback in recent years, organizations are again offering coaching to all levels of managers, instead of restricting services to the top line.
“This is all about the economy. People have been working with smaller budgets for a couple of years. That has changed. I predict a boom in coaching and personal development. I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Karl Corbett, lead researcher at Sherpa Coaching.
The Sherpa Executive Coaching Survey is co-sponsored by executive education departments at the University of Georgia, Texas Christian University and Miami University, and designed in conjunction with IQS Research in Louisville, Kentucky.

The sixth annual Sherpa Executive Coaching Survey is a free download at sherpacoaching.com. A separate report on coaches’ fees and earnings will be published on February 25, 2011 and posted at sherpacoaching.com.
