2012 Leadership Development & Talent Strategy Forecast: Foggy with a chance of not meeting targets
HCM Research and Advisory Services Group, led by the Business Intelligence Board, Chief Learning Office releases the 2012 Leadership Development and Talent Strategies Forcast.

Human Capital Media (HCM) Research and Advisory Services Group has just released the official Leadership Development and Talent Strategies Forecast Report. The leadership report was generated from their annual Leadership Development survey, led by the Business Intelligence Board, Chief Learning Officer magazine. Nearly two hundred executive leaders contributed to the report by sharing their planned investments and practices regarding their leadership development for the upcoming year.
The results identified the top 5 skills targeted for executive leadership in 2012, as:
• Strategic planning 51.4%
• Business acumen 50.0%
• Coaching 48.6%
• Communication 47.2%
• Employee engagement 38.9%
With “Succession planning” at a close 37.5%. These corporations distinguish strengthening current leaders and developing up and coming leaders with the overall success of their companies. To support this, 44% of participants identified increased spending on leadership training and development for 2012, although less than 50% of them stated that they do not have a validated, proven solution to accomplish these targets.
With respect to front-line managers, the top 5 areas of focus for these organizations in 2012 will be on:b/b]
• Communication 61.8%
• Coaching 51.4%
• Conflict management 43.1%
• Employee engagement 43.1%
• Business acumen 39.6%
Interestingly, communication, coaching and employee engagement ranked among the top 5 focus for management and leadership training. This was no surprise to David Lahey, President of Predictive Success.
