The Chief of Sport performance of US Olympic Committee, Alan Ashley commented regarding the Youth Olympics said, “With this particular event, you have a little more flexibility. I think a little creativity is fun.”

The Winter Youth Olympics comprises of mixed gender events in alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country sking, curling, figure skating, luge, short track speedskating and ski jumping. Ashley said, “The athletes love it, because it builds camaraderie of teams beyond just men or women.”
