Automakers around the world are vigorously attempting to produce more fuel-efficient vehicles to satisfy the needs of today’s drivers. Sometime this year, buyers will get their first look at the new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco . The Malibu Eco will provide new technology and several design features that are unique to this model that will contribute to its fuel efficiency.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco will be powered by the combination of a 2.4L direct-injected four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 15-hp electric motor. Chevy is eventually expected to add two more powertrain options to the Malibu Eco, including a 190-hp 2.5L engine and a turbocharged four-cylinder which is suspected to be the same 270-hp 2.0L model now found in the Buick Regal. Chevy has yet to announce when the two additional engine choices will appear.

Chevrolet engineers have designed the Malibu Eco for maximum fuel-efficiency , adding an aluminum hood and rear bumper beam, lighter dash materials, and even lightweight carpet. Chevy claims that these unique new materials are responsible for a weight reduction of around 130 pounds. Smooth underbody panels and an active shutter in the grille also help to reduce drag. Chevrolet estimates that the Eco will get about 25 mpg city/37 mpg highway.

For $25,995, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco will come standard with a long list of features including: ambient lighting, heated mirrors, driver and front-passenger knee bags, MyLink infotainment system, OnStar, and 17-inch low-rolling-resistance tires. Additionally, Chevy will offer four different feature packages:
-Power Convenience package : includes a power driver’s seat, remote start, a rearview camera, universal garage-door opener, and an an auto-dimming mirror.
-Premium Audio package : adds fog lamps, a Pioneer audio system with nine speakers, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.
-Leather package : adds leather seats, heated front seats, and a power adjustable passenger seat.
-Navigation package : adds a navigation system and an auto-up driver’s window.

Expect the 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco to arrive at dealerships sometime this spring.
