24 7 Parking supports new road works permit scheme

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 3, 2009 -- London, England (October 30, 2009) - 24 7 parking, experts in finding accessible parking in London, are adding their full support to the new road works permit scheme for London, announced by Transport Minister Sadiq Khan, after it was given the green light at the recent Department for Transport summit.

Through the implementation of the new scheme, some 18 London boroughs, alongside Transport for London, will be given more involvement in the coordination and scheduling of road works and the amount of space such works are allowed to occupy, in a move to reduce the immense problems caused by excessive works being carried out simultaneously and bringing traffic to a complete standstill.

Under the new scheme, anyone wishing to conduct road repairs will need to apply for a permit and face fines if they breach the terms.

Following the government ruling in April 2008, allowing councils to apply for permission to operate such schemes, London is the second region to submit an application to issue permits, following the successful implementation of the system in Kent earlier this year.

Speaking during the announcement Mr. Khan said that reducing the disruption caused by road works was one of his priorities as he had seen the chaos caused to road users through excessive street works. With the implementation of this groundbreaking scheme, he also called on councils across the country to "crack down" on firms that habitually overrun on scheduled works.

"24 7 Parking have joined councils, residents and commuters in London in welcoming the new scheme," states Nick Mordin of 24 7 Parking. "This marks a significant step towards ending the severe problems caused by sprawling and drawn out road works that cause gridlock on the capital's streets."
