Austin tx -- Free-Press-Release.com-- May 25, 2011 -- GEORGETOWN, TX (May 24, 2011) – Approximately108 used hearing aids were collectedby the staff of Estes Audiology and members of the Sertoma Club of Georgetown during their 2nd Annual Hearing Aid Roundup held in Georgetown/Sun City on Friday, May 13, 2011 . The donation value of these used hearing aids is estimated to be more than $45K . These hearing aids will be donated to the University of Texas - Austin Speech and Hearing Center for the Sertoma Hearing Aid Recycle Program (S.H.A.R.P.) where they will then be refurbished and given to those who would otherwise be unable to afford them.
“Each year, people fail to receive the hearing healthcare they need because they cannot afford hearing aids. As a healthcare provider, this is heartbreaking,” commented Dr. Soriya Estes, owner and founder of Estes Audiology. “Through our annual Hearing Aid Roundup, we hope to reverse that trend – at least in Central Texas. Many, many thanks to the citizens of Sun City and Georgetown for coming to our event and giving others the possibility of hearing.”
Added Jim Wilson, Speech & Hearing Director of the Georgetown Sertoma Club, “We are indeed proud of our club and the benefits this drive will bring to many needing hearing assistance through the SHARP Sertoma program.”
For the past two years, Estes Audiology and the Georgetown Sertoma Club have teamed up to collect used hearing aids during the month of May – a month designated as Better Hearing and Speech Month. The Sertoma Club is a national organization that focuses on assisting people with hearing health issues and on educating communities on hearing health. In addition, Sertoma clubs throughout North America sponsor the Sertoma Hearing Aid Recycling Program also known as S.H.A.R.P. – a program that collects used hearing aids so that they can be refurbished and given to those economically challenged.
