NEWBERG, Ore. – Parr Lumber in Newberg will host the 2nd Annual Parr Lumber Tough Strand Roping Invitational Saturday, July 30, 2011.
Started in 2010 by Parr Lumber Newberg store manager and amateur ranch roper Glenn Aust, the Tough Strand Invitational will begin at 10 a.m. on the field adjacent to Parr Lumber’s Newberg store at 200 N Elliot and is open to the public.
During the competition Parr Lumber will host a BBQ lunch to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities and give away door prizes worth more than $800. Families are invited to participate in onsite activities including live music by local acoustic duo Jon and Keri White.
“It’s a great community event with prizes and activities for kids and great discounts in the store for families,” said Aust a 31-year member of the Parr team. “We enjoy gathering in support of local ropers and Ronald McDonald House.”
Ranch roping consists of three-man teams and is performed with an emphasis on horsemanship and riding technique. Unlike calf roping, ranch roping is done slowly, purposefully so as not to stress the cattle and is considered more accurate to actual rancher techniques.
