2nd Annual South Dallas AIDS Walk

June 16, 2012 – On Saturday, March 24, 2012, The Anthony Chisom AIDS Foundation (ACAF) will host the 2nd Annual South Dallas AIDS Walk (SDAW) which will serve to inspire, rally, and galvanize the community of South Dallas to continue to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS and aid those in need. The South Dallas AIDS Walk will offer a variety of groups, nonprofits and businesses an amazing opportunity to make a difference and get your message out to the people that live and work in the Dallas area and abroad that are either infected or impacted by HIV/AIDS.

With the generous support of Walgreens, Baylor’s Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute, Dunkin Donuts, Christus Health, Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp, Metropolitan Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Thompson Fine Arts Inc. and others, the inaugural South Dallas AIDS Walk held March 19, 2011, raised over $10,000 with 300 registered walkers and over 500 attendees. “Truly a dream come true for me but even more so a success for the community and all those impacted, “said, Anthony Chisom, Founder and CEO of the Anthony Chisom AIDS Foundation.

The South Dallas AIDS Walk is an initiative of the Anthony Chisom AIDS Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization established in Dallas with the mission of bringing SUPPORT, HEALTH, & MEDICINE to people living with HIV/AIDS around the world. “We are committed and focused to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS among all populations in Dallas and will continue to aid those that are in need.”

Hosted by Dallas’ own, Gary with da Tea of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show and Phill Wilson, CEO and Founder of The Black AIDS Institute leading as ambassador, the inaugural South Dallas AIDS Walk truly created a movement to further educate on HIV/AIDS awareness, reduce transmissions, and more importantly eliminate stigmas associated with this dreadful, but preventable disease. “This is not just a walk for the cause; it’s a movement to cure”, said Auntjuan Wiley, SDAW Event Chair and Executive Director of ACAF, who has already begun working around the clock in an effort to gain exposure and excitement about this remarkable opportunity once again. “Until There’s a Cure” is his motto in making this event successful.

The South Dallas AIDS Walk will begin at the South Dallas Cultural Center located at 3400 South Fitzhugh Avenue. The route will start at Fitzhugh & Robert B. Cullum Avenue, then down MLK Blvd., pass Malcolm X Blvd., to Edgewood Street, crossing over to Pennsylvania Avenue, then back the South Dallas Cultural Center. Registration begins at 8:00 AM and the walk starts at 10:00 AM. Live entertainment and fun activities courtesy of community partners will headline the closing ceremonies.
