Phoenix, AZ – Those seeking a cozy retreat during the holidays can enjoy quilting, conversation and home-made cookies while Valley Author, Linda Thompson signs copies of her third book, Fran’s Story, The 90-Year Journey of a Kansas Farm Girl from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5 at the 3 Dudes Quilting, 5053 E. Elliot Road in Phoenix.
The book chronicles the life and history of Thompson’s mother, Harriet Frances (Carey) Frazier, an avid quilter, and gives insights on the life in America’s heartland starting from the early 1900s to present day Arizona. In addition to signing copies of her book, Thompson will tell stories about her mother’s life, and 3 Dudes Quilting Shop will provide free refreshments. Three of Frazier’s award-winning quilts will also be on display.
Written from Frazier’s accounts, the poignant, 122-page story includes photos and anecdotes on farm life, quilting and even favorite family recipes for chocolate fudge and divinity. The introduction and conclusion are written by Thompson, but the rest of the story is word for word from Frazier’s hand-written notes.
“When my mother moved into our new home in Arizona in 1995, I asked her to write her life story,” said Thompson, the eldest of Frazier’s two daughters. “It paints a picture of what life was like for her, starting as a child in the early 1900s to her mid-80s. If you’ve ever wondered what life was like before indoor plumbing, electricity and a supermarket on every corner, reading Fran’s Story will take you there.”
Frazier, who passed away in January of 2006, clipped pictures from magazines to provide images of water pumps, a wood burning stove, cream separator, root cellar and many other items that are virtually non existent now, but were commonplace in her day. Each chapter has simple quilt patterns such as Clay’s Choice and Texas Treasure.
Thompson’s other books include: Planning for Tomorrow, Your Passport to a Confident Future, A Caregiver’s Journey, You Are Not Alone and Every Generation Needs a New Revolution. She has written articles on topics such as: creating a meaningful life plan and communicating across the generations. She is also a professional speaker and consultant on the non-financial side of life planning, specializing in caregiver’s issues, as well as the host of the web TV program, the Author’s Show.
