Ryker Sloan is in his first few months of Kempo Karate at the Villari’s karate dojo in San Clemente Ca. and has already earned his first belt, taking home the yellow belt in May of 2011. That probably sounds very typical for a youngster to accomplish, however the amazing thing here is that Ryker is only three years old. That’s right, a 3 year old has earned a yellow belt after just a few months at the dojo.

Under the intense physical and mental training of Sensei Fermin Gonzalez, a third level black belt in his own right, Ryker has achieved what some accomplish in their teens or twenties. “He’s is an exceptional student, especially for how old he is” states Sensei Gonzalez. “He has this amazing ability to stay focused on the training. He’s really spectacular for his young age.”

It appears to be a perfect combination between student and teacher. Ryker’s father Sean Sloan, an Orange County business turnaround consultant states “Sensei Fermin has this fantastic ability to get the best out of the younger students”. He adds “Ryker is this little genius. He has this ability to understand and focus on the right things. So it’s a great combination.”

Ryker may be the youngest American, but the youngest ever is a 3 year old Australian girl who was a few days younger than Ryker when she received her yellow belt in Karate. “That’s Ok”, states young Ryker, “We both should be proud.”
