RALEIGH, NC – The Triangle Area Freelancers (TAF) will host WRITE NOW! 2011 , its fourth annual nonfiction writing symposium, Saturday, April 2, 2011, from 8a.m. to 4p.m. at Wake Technical Community College’s Northern Campus, Building D.
Philip Gerard , chair of the Department of Creative Writing at UNC Wilmington, will deliver the keynote address: “Cultivating the Successful Writer Within.” A former writer-in-residence at Bradford College, MA, and Old Dominion University, VA, Gerard has conducted workshops and taught at writers’ conferences along the east coast. His numerous books include Creative Nonfiction: Researching and Crafting Stories of Real Life and Writing a Book That Makes a Difference, both published by Story Press. (www.philipgerard.com)
WRITE NOW! 2011 also will present veteran New York literary agent Rita Rosenkranz , who will conduct a workshop to help writers craft effective book proposals, and present an additional session on finding and working with agents. Founder of Rita Rosenkranz Literary Agency in 1990 after a long career as an editor, she represents health, history, parenting, music, how-to, popular science, business, biography, sports, popular reference, cooking, writing, spirituality, and general interest titles. One of the conference founders, Linda Hill, says she is “excited about offering attendees the opportunity to interact with a nonfiction agent with Ms. Rosenkranz’s level of experience.”
Taught by nationally published writers and journalists, TAF conference sessions will be presented in two tracks: Track A to include Freelancing 101, Mentor Center, Coping with Freelancing Disasters, and Writing for the Web. Track B will feature Business Writing, The Author-Agent Relationship, How to Write an Irresistible Nonfiction Book Proposal, and My First Book: Lessons Learned.
The Mentor Center will offer beginning writers a chance to discuss career goals with an experienced freelancer. The always-popular panel discussion “Ask the Freelancers!” will allow participants to experience the support and exchange of ideas that is characteristic of the group’s monthly meetings.
TAF is an organization offering information and support to professional writers and aspiring freelancers. Members have been published in numerous local/national magazines and newspapers, including The News & Observer, The Cary News, Our State, North Carolina Signature, Midtown, Parade, Good Housekeeping, Reader’s Digest, Mad Magazine, Military Officer, and others.
