6 Day Dental and Orthodontics Now Accepting Medicaid and CHIP
DALLAS (March 11, 2010) – Effective immediately, 6 Day Dental and Orthodontics now accepts Medicaid and CHIP at all five 6 Day Dental locations – in Allen, Coppell, Frisco/Plano, Flower Mound and Roanoke/Keller. With the number of dentists who accept Medicaid and CHIP declining, 6 Day’s new Medicaid and CHIP status goes a long way to improve access to oral health care for families and their children, especially as tooth decay in children is increasing, according to recent studies.
“It makes sense for 6 Day to accept Medicaid so that we are even more accessible for all of the families who need our help,” said Dr. John Bond, founder of 6 Day Dental. “There are far too few Medicaid dental providers and many of our pediatric patients have medical issues that require highly specialized dentistry. Fortunately, there’s no waiting list. Patients usually can be seen the day they call or at least the very next day.”
“Additionally, parents, too, have waited to receive dental attention, usually because they tend to give all their available dental benefits to their children,” said Dr. Bond. “With our new Medicaid status, we can provide appropriate care to children and parents alike – everyone who needs it.”
Dental problems in children are widespread. “Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General,” the first-ever surgeon general report on oral health and a report still referenced today, found that tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease; over half of children from five to nine years old have at least one cavity or filling, and by age 17, nearly 80 percent of people have had a cavity. Interestingly enough, the surgeon general report found about 80 percent of all dental disease is found in about 25 percent of the population.
“Of course, this is mostly preventable,” said Dr. Bond. “Parents need to understand this so they can plan for check-ups for their children and themselves. Medicaid and CHIP cover most dental services either in part or in full.”
Dr. Bond also noted Texas has recently made changes to its children’s insurance plans that have increased provider participation. Just as there are health disparities in general health and treatment, there are health disparities in oral health and treatment. “We have worked very, very diligently in trying to improve the access to excellent dental care for our patients and other people who need it,” said Dr. Bond.
Having served the Dallas Metroplex for more than 20 years, the 6 Day staff has thorough understanding and experience in processing insurance and helping to make sure each patient receives the maximum reimbursement and dental coverage.
