6 Days Ultimately Challenging Trekking To Explore Swallow Cave & The World's Largest Cave - Son Doong Cave

(Free-Press-Release.com) October 28, 2011 -- Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, 10 October 2011, Vietnam Jeep Tours has crafted and introduced a 6 days discovery package to explore Son Doong – the world’s largest cave in Quang Binh Province, Vietnam. This is a very challenging trekking trip for adventure enthusiasts and skillful trekkers.

Son Doong cave is the largest cave in the world, with the caverns big enough to fit a whole city street inside the cave. These awe-inspiring sceneries take you deep down the beautiful, alien world of Hang Son Doong cave. The cave holds a river and a mini-jungle inside.

In this expedition, the main means of transportation from Dong Hoi City to the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and in the Park is vintage U.S Army Jeeps which will take us in the Ho Chi Minh historic road.

Exploring the largest cave in the world is very different from any other cave exploration. The first challenge is hiking from the head of main road to Swallow cave (Hang En) in jungle trails. When walking inside, the headlamp is the main equipment for us to discover the cave. Reward of our Swallow Cave Discovery is a great view of more than thousand of swallows inside. This day, we will cook dinner and enjoy camping at this cave to save energy for the next challenge day.

The next day is the most challenging day of this journey. We will trek more than 6 hours through the jungle to reach the entrance of the cave, where mysterious fogs always come out from even daily and night time.

If we want to enter this cave, we have to climb down from the top of the mountain on sharp rocky paths by using rope and climbing gears. Although we cannot explore all place of this cave, there are two big points we can reach in this Son Doong Cave: Doline 1 and Doline 2. Doline is created with a cave system ceiling collapse inwards allowing daylight to stream in and unique ecosystem.

In Doline 1, the plant in this area exhibited an adaptation called: “phenotypic plasticity” meaning the changes in response to the environment. Some of ancient animal fossils can be seen here.

Doline 2 can be reached after 4 hour-trekking. Doline 2 is home to mini jungle and also called “Garden of Adam”. This is the largest jungle inside the cave in the world. Cooking and overnight Camping at Doline 2 ends our tiring-but-greatest day.

The continuing days of this trip are easier with the trek back to Swalllow Cave from Doline 2 of Son Doong Cave for overnight and another trek from Swallow Cave to Doong Village before transfer back to Phong Nha and Dong Hoi City. Those hiking days will help us not only enjoy the natural wild beauty but also learn another nice aspect of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park – the traditional customs and local lives of native villagers in Doong Village.
