7-day ebooks bonanza

March 6, 2010

Booktaste promotes Ebook Week March 7-13 by giving away a host of quality titles.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 6, 2010 -- For seven days, from March 7 to 13, there’s an ebook bonanza as the world celebrates the reading revolution, and for this the DarlingNewspaperPress declares a rare feast of free titles at its Booktaste site. Ebook Week (www.ebookweek.com) in its second year has attracted massive response from readers, booksellers and publishers alike.

“Free books is something we don’t normally do,” said Booktaste principal Charles Bryce. “A good book is worth paying for or we’d all be out of business. But this is the birthday of Ebook Week and for that we’re gifting all our titles to people keen to read the digital formats.
“Our books, mostly fiction and including novels and short stories, can be read on just about any device and in most of the formats. These range from a desktop PC to a smartphone or a dedicated ereader. Everybody has access to our ebooks.”
Mr Bryce said the one-week promotion was the best way to encourage book readers who had yet to try the electronic experience. “My own first ebook was a free download to my laptop, and this convinced me that reading pleasure lies in the content rather than the method of display.

“Our titles meet the usual popular genres of mystery, romance, adventure and humour. Also memoirs. We find that novellas and short stories bring the best digital sales. So far, that is. Many people dislike reading on a large screen or a small phone, but now there comes a host of digital devices with screens big as a paperback. Even phones have increased their screen size to cope with ebooks and internet browsing. Now’s the time for people to use whatever they have to enjoy the reading revolution.”
The March 7-13 celebration was initiated a year ago by Canadian author Rita Toews. It now has enthusiastic support from global players such as Smashwords, The E-ink Corporation, Kobo and many others. It comes at a time when every major publisher has launched ebook strategies to keep up with the vigorous world trend towards digital text.
