Sharon Lee, Executive Director of LIHI was delighted with the success of the event. “ It allows us to continue to serve our low income friends,” said Lee. “We have produced more than 3,500 units of low-income housing and provide case management and hygiene services to thousands of our neighbors who need our help the most. The money raised at this event will help us to continue these terribly important services.”

Paul Cummings from Enterprise Community Partners and Brain Runberg, from the Runberg Architecture Group, served as honorary co-chairs of the event. The Northshore United Church of Christ was honored as the 2009 Housing Hero and Bruce Murphy, representing Key Bank, excitedly told the sold-out crowd about McDermott Place, a 75 unit apartment building named after Congressman Jim McDermott, which opens in December.

The first auction items were lunch with each of Seattle’s mayoral candidates, followed by some spectacular items, including a one-week vacation anywhere in the world! Charla Ojala, the auction coordinator, was pleased with the uniqueness of the items. “We tried to create a collection of items that would capture the imagination of our guests,” said Charla. And indeed they did! The last item of the night was the collection of unopened wines from the evening’s banquet and the pre-auction reception and fund-raising wine toss, for a total of 130 bottles of different and delicious wines from numerous vineyards.

April Brown, the evening’s auctioneer was thrilled with the energy. “The audience was clearly interested in supporting the incredibly important issue of homelessness,” said April. “They put their money where there heart is!”
