(Free-Press-Release.com) December 1, 2011 -- A delegation representing UAE travelled to Bahrain and participated in 8th International Scientific Conference which is organized by Arabian Gulf University’s HH Princess Al Jawhara Centre for Molecular Medicine and Inherited disorders from 28 to 29 November, under the auspices of Bahrain Minister of Education HE Majid Bin Ali Naimi with participation of senior physicians and scientists from USA, Europe and the Middle East.

The delegation included Prof. Najeeb Al Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and president of the award’s Centre for Arab Genomic Studies (CAGS), Dr Ahmad Al Hashemi a member of SHAMS’ Board of Trustees, Dr. Fatima Bastaki head of pediatrics department at Al Wasl Hospital and Dr. Fatima AL Jasmi Consultant genetic disorders at Tawam hospital, and Assistant Professor at pediatrics Department, Faculty of Medicine, UAE University.

“The establishment of (CAGS) in 2003 has supported UAE achievements in the field of genetic disorders’ studies within the Arab world”, Prof. Najeeb Al Khaja said.

Prof. Al Khaja talked about the importance of the conference which is attended by some of the top geneticists in the world by saying that participating in the conference is a good opportunity to deal with lots of important topics such as the latest techniques of prenatal molecular diagnosis of genetic chromosomal abnormalities and advanced molecular diagnosis on pediatrics and reproductive health.

“In parallel with the conference, the operational ceremony for HH Princess Al Jawhara Centre for Molecular Medicine and Inherited disorders was held. Establishing the centre has depended on the international standards including its infrastructures, equipments and diagnostic and therapeutic services. It is expected that the centre will coordinate in upgrading the public awareness within Gulf Cooperation Council’s countries with the aim of preventing the spread of genetic disorders in the region”, Prof. Al Khaja said.
