Weatherford, Texas resident Sid Huntley announces his partnership with writer, S.L. Jensen, to pen “Huntley’s Thunder; Three Times All American Futurity Winner.” The book is being researched at this time and is reportedly in the early stage of development as of October 2010! A special thanks is offered from Huntley and Jensen for the many contributors that have generously presented stories, photographs and information already.
Sid and his father Hugh hold the record for single ownership winning the worlds’ richest horse race three times! The races in 1959, 1961 and 1963 proclaimed this record and it still stands today.
The late Newt Keck was their trainer for 15 years and worked closely with Hugh. Each of these men possessed a singular gift when it came to horses; Hugh could pick them, Newt could train them and Sid could breed them and this combination of talent produced three famous wins!
The book will be a collection of memoirs shared by Sid and his friends. The book will include many photographs from archives and personal albums sure to enjoyed by all who read it. Well known names of the horse racing industry; world class horsemen; acclaimed owners, movie stars, and legendary names of Quarter Horses and trainers will be featured in the story line. A tribute to the American Quarter Horse Association and their Hall of Fame will be included.
Ruidoso, New Mexico is the setting of the All American Futurity and from Galobar's win at the first All American Futurity in 1959 to Goetta’s win in 1963 this book will bring back memories! Everyone that was there, every groom, trainer, or owner will enjoy Huntley’s Thunder! The thunder of powerful and fast horses will bring vivid, emotional and colorful recollections of the glory days of early quarter horse racing in America. Only a movie about it would make it better!
Panoramic scenes of Whitman County Washington and the Huntley Family farm & ranch from the 40’s, with Hugh Huntley’s early love affair with horse racing help bring an all American family story to life. Sid Huntley, the only child, grew up with a passion for the land and horses the same as his dad, and his grandfather. The family moved to a ranch in Madera, California in 1957; they opened a horse breeding operation and ran a few hundred head of cattle. Racing was in Hugh's blood by this time and his reputation continued to grow in the Quarter Horse Racing cricles.
The excitement of being a part of the all American dream during exciting years will keep the readers turning the pages of "Huntley’s Thunder; Three Times All American Futurity Winner" a book destined to bring smiles and touch the hearts of those who read it. The book has the makings of a family friendly movie of real people larger than life at times! Horse so fast, so beautiful they take your breath away, with drama, tragedy, love and triumph to create a plot worth watching. Horses and racing much like speed and sex are intoxicating and addictive!
