FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 7, 2009 -- More Italian fiction will be available to an English-speaking readership with the launch in September of Troubador Storia, a dynamic new series showcasing Italian fiction in translation. Published by Troubador Publishing, the series launches with three new translations – two classics and one contemporary novel – and aims to bring the best of Italian fiction to a wider English-speaking audience.

The new Troubador imprint complements the Troubador Italian Studies series of literary, historical and cultural titles, now numbering over 50. Managing Director Jeremy Thompson said: “Storia will allow access to some fantastic Italian writers and literature – both contemporary and from the 20th century – to a whole new audience for the first time. There is so much excellent quality Italian literature that never makes it into English – an Italian Publishers’ Association survey launched at the 2009 London Book Fair showed that the export of Italian fiction to the UK market was pitifully low. We hope this series goes some way to redressing that imbalance.”

The first three books launching the imprint are Honest Souls (Grazzia Deladda), Don Giovanni in Sicily (Vitalino Brancati) and Techniques of Seduction (Andrea de Carlo). All are new English translations of popular Italian novels. The Troubador Storia imprint will publish up to three original translations a year. In 2010, the series will publish Two out of Two by Andrea De Carlo, and Una granita di caffè con panna by Alessandra Lavagnino, plus one further title.

Each new title includes additional material in the form of either an introduction, author interview or foreword that sets the book in context, and highlights the importance of the text within Italian culture.

The series will be represented by Star Book Sales and distributed by Orca Book Services on behalf of Troubador.

The first three Storia titles, published on 1st September are:

Honest Souls by Grazia Deledda
(translated by Jan Kozma, Professor of Italian, University of Kansas)

Don Giovanni In Sicily by Vitaliano Brancati
(translated by Corrada Biazzo Curry, The American University in Rome)

Techniques of Seduction by Andrea De Carlo
(translated by Paula Geldenhuys, University of Wittwatersrand, South Africa)
