Before joining the Heritage Foundation in 2010, Nix was a research assistant at the Center for Eukaryotic Structural Genomics, a specialized research unit at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, supported by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

In her interview, podcast on February, 9, 2011, Nix shares enlightenment on the battle raging over the Obama Administration’s Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA), known more commonly as Obamacare. The growing multi-state opposition to PPACA concerns whether Congress, which has powers to regulate interstate commerce, can also require individuals to buy health insurance or face a tax penalty.

In her, April 20, 2010 blog posted on “The Foundry”, Nix writes, “More than half of the newly insured will find themselves subjected to the low-quality coverage offered by Medicaid, and several provisions in the bill will either discourage the uninsured from seeking coverage or cause the insured to lose the coverage they currently have.”

The health care bill was recently struck down by Florida U.S. District Court Judge Roger Vinson, who is the first federal judge to declare the entire health care reform law unconstitutional and found that Congress exceeded its bounds of authority in passing the government’s healthcare reform bill. The health care reform law was also found unconstitutional in December of 2010 by U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson of Virginia. In response, federal attorneys have stated their plan to appeal the Florida ruling to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. Currently, more than half of all states are now suing to stop Obamacare.

In her interview, health policy expert Nix shares a candid update on where the healthcare reform bill is going and its implications upon American life, such as the economy, jobs, diminished healthcare access, and many other aspects.

Nix holds a Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology and French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and she studied French at L’Institut Catholique de Paris. She currently resides in Washington, D.C., and volunteers at the George Washington University Hospital Women’s Center while also preparing applications for medical school.

Her research has been cited by Townhall.com, Kaiser Health News and Human Events, amongst other journals and media outlets. As a prolific contributor to The Foundry she blogs and speaks regularly on health care issues to student groups, audiences on Capitol Hill and radio programs across the country.
