Kirsten Plotkin became an expert on diet free weight loss when, five years ago, she discovered the reason everybody seems to get fat. She has used that secret for more than five years. She is not unique in fact because of a damaged thyroid she is far less likely to maintain a long term weight loss than most people. Yet she has done it, persistently for more than five years. Kirsten was in her early 40’s, when she was first diagnosed with a serious case of hyperglycemia. She faithfully took the advice of her doctor and the dietician he referred her to. Till that time, she had never had a weight problem and had never craved any type of food. Of course, that was about to change. The diet she was told to follow consisted of 3 carbohydrates to every protein. This was very new to her because till then she had followed the eating pattern learned from her parents and grandparents. This new diet was virtually the opposite.
She did what she was told, but her blood sugar problem did not seem to improve and during the 3 to 4 years that followed, she went from a normal stable weight, to around five kilos heavier. The one outstanding thing she remembers is that she developed an obsessive craving for bread. That was lucky because bread was one of the things she was encouraged to eat. She finally lost all confidence in the dietician and stopped attending the clinic.
From that time, till five years ago she joined every new diet that promised a weight loss. Her problem with hyperglycemia, which the diet was meant to cure, had if anything gotten worse, but she no longer cared. She just wanted to get back to her normal weight.
She stuck to each and every diet she started. She lost the weight and shortly after, put it all back on again. She noticed that after each weight loss cycle, she would always end up a little heavier than before. Then, almost six years ago, her weight reach eighty kilo’s, the heaviest she had ever been.
She was at a cross road. If she dieted again, she would end up even heavier. If she did not diet she would still end up heavier because her cravings had reached a point where she felt hungry almost all the time.
A third option was to give up and accept her fate. At that point she decided to forget everything she had been told about what foods to eat and what to avoid. She would put her trust into her considerable knowledge of the past, of human history as well as her vast experience with every diet invented over a period of twenty years. Somehow she would find an acceptable answer.
What happened has been called an epiphany. A moment of complete clarity when she came to realize that she had uncovered the secret to diet free weight loss.
