A crash took place between a minivan and a semi truck with a trailer on the Indiana East-West Toll Road leads seven dead and four injured.

Seven of the 10 people were killed, the other three and the semi driver ended up in the hospital.

Two of the minivan occupants were flown away to emergency care by a helicopter, while the third person went to Elkhart Hospital by ambulance.

Authorities in their preliminary assessment believe the minivan, filled with 10 people, might have slowed way down after hitting a deer when a semi truck collided it from the back end.

Indiana State Police are reporting, the accident occurred just before 8 p.m. between the towns of Bristol and Middlebury on I 80/90.

The collision took place in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 103.5 and ended up in the median.

The wreckage caused a huge traffic issue when it wound up in the center median, closing both directions of the Indiana East-West Toll Road, which caused officials to divert vehicles out of the area.
