A Final Salute To Yahoo Site Explorer
A Final Salute To Yahoo Site Explorer
For the past few years one of the premiere SEO back link sites has been Yahoo Site Explorer. Today is has closed and all the metrics have moved to Bing.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 22, 2011 --
I have to admit that I am slightly emotional when the inevitable finally happened. One of the most influential and highly used SEO tools and back link checkers has finally closed its virtual doors to an ever grateful SEO public. Yes boys and girls, Yahoo Site Explorer has finally closed and its metrics have been absorbed by Bing.
For all those who never used Yahoo Site Explorer, or are reading this blog article somewhere in the distant technological future of tomorrow, we SEO professionals, practitioners, amateurs and wanna be dot com millionaires of 2011 will forever remember the highs and lows, the joys and miseries of entering our newly search engine optimised web site address into the subtle text box field, holding our breath and clicking search URL, only to find out that our back linking strategy was not as good as we thought it was going to be. But then, as we got better, persevered, and kept on link building as our SEO fathers and mothers told us to do, there came the magical day when … mercy upon mercies … the efforts began to pay off and the back links started to arrive. What a proud day that was.
I wipe away the tear of sentiment and look to an uncertain future without Yahoo Site Explorer.
I must say, I have coped with the collapse of the world financial markets a lot better than I have coped with the closing of Yahoo Site Explorer – a URL which is bookmarked on every mac in my offices, my ipad and iphone. I say IS, I now mean WAS. I even had a link on the SEOMatters SEO Tools page, which is now to be removed today.
So what to do now for SEO and Keyword research?
Well plenty really. I can recommend 3 really good SEO site analysis sites, which now sadly come with different levels of service and metrics, the better ones you have to pay a subscription for (this brave new world of ‘subscriptions for SEO’ now the king is dead).
SEO Moz – is a fabulous SEO analysis website that gives in depth information regarding back links, strategies and anchor texts. It is fabulous for looking at what your competition is doing and which high authority websites they link back from. The free version is just fine but the more information you need, then you will have to subscribe.
Woo Rank – is a really powerful on page SEO analysis tool that shows you valuable on page and on website information once to have entered a URL into the required field. You also have the option to get a “white labelled” report if you intend to use it for any SEO Service or SEO Consultancy.
Google Webmaster Central – a slightly more restrictive model here as you can only get the required metrics for your own websites that you have ‘authenticated’ with the Google Webmaster site. Saying that once you have registered with Google for this service you do get unlimited access to all the other Google SEO tools such as their free Keyword Tool.
A Fond Farewell To Yahoo Site Explorer
Well Yahoo Site Explorer, it has been a great adventure and I for one am very sorry to see you go. I thank you for your tireless work and endless back link teasing, but most of all I salute you for just being you.
