Their perspective provides insight to the unspoken issues that affect single moms and motivates moms to encourage rather than discourage fathers to become more active in their child's life. "We realized there was a need for this kind of book because single moms have been portrayed negatively in society," said co-author Melanie Bent.

A recent study released shows that 72% of African-American babies are born to unwed mothers. Among other statistical data released there are more single parent homes now than two decades ago. This issue crosses all color barriers and many single moms were raised in single parent homes themselves.

"It's a generational issue that if not addressed then rates are predicted to increase along with the percentage of teenage pregnancy," stated co-author Max-Laine.

"Crazy" Baby Mamas was founded by Melanie Bent and Max-Laine on April 30, 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia.
