FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alexandria, Virginia, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 6, 2011 -- Written about his personal experiences in Iraq, these issues and more are discussed in a new book by Michael M. O’Brien, published by AuthorHouse. The book, America’s Failure In Iraq: Intervention to Withdrawal 1991-2010, asks many pertinent questions, such as: what has been the cost of the Iraq war and what has been the cost of the Afghan war; why is America in Iraq and why is America in Afghanistan; what are the causes of the Afghanistan war and what are the causes of the Iraq war?

• In his final speech to the nation in 1961, President Dwight Eisenhower spoke of the “military-industrial complex,” and warned of its growing power and influence over national priorities. So concerned was he about this, he felt the need to share his fears with the nation as he left office after eight years in the White House.

• During World War II, the nation’s corporate might was converted to a war footing making planes, boats, rifles and Jeeps at a rate never before seen in human history. This was due to America’s ability to harness its manpower and its manufacturing capabilities. But it was also due to the huge profits these firms stood to make if awarded major War Department contracts.

• Since then our nation has entered into conflicts that we didn’t have to. We have entered into war (but we don’t get formal declarations of war from Congress) on the premise it was for the defense of our country. In reality, these conflicts have had little, if anything, to do with the defense of our nation. (Was the reason for war with Iraq, and the reason for war with Afghanistan, due to any threat posed to the United States by these two countries?) Rather, they were concocted by those in power, who owed their allegiance to the “military-industrial complex” that funded their political campaigns.

• America’s Failure In Iraq: Intervention to Withdrawal 1991-2010, is based on the personal experiences of Michael M. O’Brien, who served in the administration of George W. Bush, and also as a Defense Department contractor in Iraq for 14 months. Mr. O’Brien’s first-hand account includes the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, where he served in the White House on the staff of Tom Ridge. It also includes his tour in Iraq as an advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Defense. Mr. O’Brien’s experiences qualify him to discuss the “military-industrial complex,” as well as the “homeland security-industrial complex,” from a rare personal and in-depth perspective.

• Today our nation is not affected by lobbyists roaming the halls of Congress as much as retired 3- and 4-star generals roaming the halls of the Pentagon. So entrenched are these former high ranking officers, no one will make them wait outside their office. In retirement a former 4-star general carries a huge amount of influence, and they are using this to cash in after they leave active duty more than at any other time in our nation’s history. The result is more American soldiers in Iraq, and more American soldiers in Afghanistan to feed this machine. The soldiers are pawns whose purpose is the assist the career advancement of senior military officers and political power players, nothing more.

• Because our national leadership is perpetually weak, and our country is led by draft dodgers and community organizers who only know where to find financial backers, the United States is failing the test of world opinion. Mike O’Brien discusses the failure of the military-industrial complex to lead America in the modern world. In his new book he warns us of its dangers in ways remarkably similar to Dwight Eisenhower. Both graduates of West Point, Mr. O’Brien and former President Eisenhower have placed their love of country above all else. Are the causes of the Iraq war, and the causes of the Afghan war really based on the “military-industrial complex?”
