Dramatic landscapes steeped in history provide stunning views, beautiful walks and the perfect setting for the luxuriously converted and tastefully decorated Beachy Head Holiday Cottages. The eight self-catering cottages in the heart of the Sussex countryside, and arguably the sunniest place in England, boast views across the South Downs towards Beachy Head and are steeped in old time charm. Five of the self-catering cottages are 18th Century listed farm buildings, while the remaining three are surrounded by the lovingly restored Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden, providing visitors with home-grown produce, a place to unwind and a quintessentially English holiday.
Beachy Head Holiday Cottages are part of the Gilbert Estate in the picturesque and enchanting village of East Dean, which is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Their period feel, encapsulated with original features such as flint and oak beams, is beautifully combined with modern conveniences, creating the perfect balance and ideal rural retreat. The cottages sleep between two and six people with the ability for group bookings of up to 16 people, making them ideal for couples, families or friends. All eight cottages promote local craftsmanship, with curtains from the village curtain maker, ornaments by local award-winning blacksmith David Skinner, and a homemade cake as a welcome gift on arrival.
The cottages are the perfect escape as well as the ideal base from which to experience all the county has to offer. The cottages are a short walk from the famous 15th Century Tiger Inn with its homemade hearty meals, one of the best pubs in England. Next door is the Estate’s Brewery, producer of the award-winning Legless Rambler – winner of the 2010 Beer of the Festival at Eastbourne, beating 120 beers from around the country.
Unbeatable walks on your doorstep explore magnificent scenery, abundant wildlife and historic locations including the spectacular Beachy Head and Seven Sisters coastlines, just a mile from the cottages, plus the South Downs National Park, Bateman’s and Glyndebourne. Other activities include golf, cycling and water sports and the delights of Brighton and Eastbourne are just 35 minutes and five minutes by car and London is just over an hour by train.
Charlie Davies-Gilbert, who runs the Estate, said: “Beachy Head has a great deal to offer and part of that is its history. Our cottages provide a unique experience to guests who can enjoy England’s finest coastline, it’s best-kept village and go back in time to enjoy the lovingly restored English Kitchen Garden. ..without doing the gardening.”
