A Solution for Chronic Skin Conditions?
A Solution for Chronic Skin Conditions? written by Dr. Craig Burns of the Maximized Health Wellness Center in Centennial, CO

Eczema and similar chronic skin conditions might be among the most maddening or frustrating of health related conditions. For patients suffering from the unsightly sores, itching and burning, flaking and daily embarrassment, it can make life unbearable. To make matters worse, the incidence of chronic skin conditions is on the rise.
In this article we propose that a majority of chronic skin conditions are being caused by “hidden” food and chemical sensitivities that in turn creates a chronic state of neurological stress and inflammation. And that, a more holistic perspective and approach is well over due.
What is Allergic Hypersensitivity?
Allergic Hypersensitivity simply put, is an adverse immune reaction to a protein (or allergen) in our environment, which is normally harmless to the non-allergic person. Recently, the idea that many forms of skin conditions are actually caused by “hidden” food sensitivities has become the hottest topic in the area of holistic dermatological intervention.
Common skin conditions related to “hidden” food sensitivities, neurological stress, and inflammation
Derrmatitis
Dermatitis means “inflamed skin,” and this class of skin disorders includes chronic conditions such as seborrhea (dandruff) and eczema. While there are genetic components to these conditions, the key is to identify all possible external allergens or irritants (such as plant and food based phenols, as well as synthetic fabrics or plastics woven into clothing).
Rosacea
Rosacea is another common inflammatory skin condition that affects many people. This occurs when the tendency to flush easily thins and breaks the tiny capillaries at the surface of the skin, resulting in a permanently rosy complexion. Many people see the first signs of rosacea in their late 30’s. I find that in most of the cases of rosacea that I see there is also a digestive component that creates inflammation. Identifying and eliminating food sensitivities and problems with the gut is the key to long lasting improvement of this condition
Eczema
Eczema is an extremely itchy skin condition which causes red to pink rashes on the skin. Eczema generally appears inside the folds of the skin, such as the knees or elbows, and is worsened by anxiety or depression. Like psoriasis, the best way to find long term relief from this condition is to properly identify the chemical stressors within the autonomic nervous system and immune system. I always recommend a holistic approach first, one that will focus on identifying the cause of the skin condition, instead of treating only the symptoms.
