We are in the middle of a very hot August in Atlanta, and most of us have our Atlanta air conditioning systems working over-time to keep our homes comfortable, asking you to turn off your air conditioning system to evaluate the condition of your ducts does not seem timely.
But, in fact, scheduling an early morning shutdown of your air conditioning system may be a prudent decision. Checking your Atlanta air conditioning ducts now, can save on monthly electric bills immediately, and though not common, eliminate higher air conditioning repair bills to fix or replace over-worked compressors, especially if your air conditioning system is going towards 15 years old.
Dust buildup in your Atlanta HVAC system ducts traps bacteria and allergy pollutants, like pollen and mold! These pollutants are distributed through out your home every time the blower turns on to circulate hot or cold air. If you suffer from allergies it is in your best interest to keep the heating and air conditioning ducts free of these particles year round. Taking the vacuum and only running it across the duct grate-cover is helping very little. You need to get several inches inside the duct.
1. After you run the vacuum crevice-tool across the duct grate-cover, remove them.
2. Wash the grate-covers in warm soapy water.
3. Still using the vacuum crevice attachment, clean all around the duct entrance and begin cleaning as far into the duct as possible; use an extension pole if necessary.
4. Dry the grate-covers and replace over ducts.
Not deemed as a thorough DIY project, following the above procedures between comprehensive duct cleaning from your Atlanta A-Team Heat & Air associate, (once annually), will eliminate costly heating and air repair bills by maintaining a healthy Atlanta air conditioning system. Providing a healthier home environment, priceless!
