20-year-old Jesse is a pizza delivery boy whose job description includes running large amounts of cash from his boss, Angelo, to the Fat Man, a Miami strip club magnate. Angelo, who “in some twisted way is the father [Jesse’s] never had,” runs a gambling ring that rakes in far more money from football bets than from pepperoni pizzas, and Jesse is his trusted cash courier. Still Jesse refuses to listen when the mysterious, green-eyed Taria—the same girl from his dreams—warns him that Angelo’s racket is about to turn deadly.

Soon Jesse wonders if Taria really can see the future. First Jesse brings a delivery to a tarot card reader who warns him that his life is headed down a bloody path. Later a strange voodoo man with a blind white eyeball “like the glowing full moon” tells Jesse that “The Devil, he close…and he angry.”

As more and darker omens appear, Jesse doesn’t know if the warnings are real, or just his artist’s imagination running wild. Soon every whisper on the Florida breeze seems to be another sign that the hand of fate is pointing at Jesse, and that there is no escaping an violent end.

Finally the darkest of these omens come true, and Jesse’s about to pay the ultimate price for Angelo. Only once Jesse seems to be safe, can he handle a truth far more dangerous than any bullet, the real truth about Taria and her magic?

Clifford Evan (Weinstein) has lived in New York City, New Orleans and South Florida and has worked as a bartender, a tutor, a beach sandal salesman and, yes, a pizza delivery boy (solely in a legal capacity). He received his MFA in fiction writing from Columbia University and currently teaches creative writing, composition and literature at Bergen Community College in New Jersey. Best that he is aware of, no one has ever done magic, witchcraft or cast a spell on him, but he acknowledges the possibility.
