A25 Awnings switches to motion wind sensors

February 24, 2010

A new technology replacing 'flawed' cup sensors will be introduced across the range from February 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Traditional wind sensors are mounted on to a flat surface, such as the wall of a building, but locating a sensor against a wall reduces it's effectiveness. More often than not, the wind sensor is sheltered while the front of the awning is exposed, some 3m or maybe more metres away from the building. In other situations, the wind sensor may be incorrectly installed and subject to more buffetting from the wind than the awning itself, causing the awning to annoyingly retract when it doesn't need to.

Somfy, one of Europes leading motor manufacturer , favoured by A25 Awnings of Surrey, have been at the forefront of the wireless motor controls and sensors market for many years. Recent developments in wireless technology have opened the market to exciting new products, and the Somfy Motion wind sensor fits the billing. Instead of relying on picking up the wind the Somfy Motion sensor takes the alternate view that if the awning front profile is moving then something needs to happen to prevent damage. Whether it be due to wind buffetting or indeed someone attempting to vandalise the awning, the Somfy Motion wind sensor will wirelessly transmit a signal to the internal reciever and retract the awning fully, until the owner extends it again. This new approach has impressed David Marsh, Managing Director of A25 awnings, who notes

'I've often had to return to customers to make adjustments to traditional wind cup sensors, which impacts negatively on profitability. It also undermines the confidence in the product from the customers point of view, which is something we try to avoid at all times. The introduction of the Motion sensor is a huge step forward. We have found it to be more discreet than a wall mounted sensor and it cuts a considerable amount of time from the installation time'
