Key Highlights

During the review period, Brazil experienced an exceptional level of foreign investment in a number of sectors, such as transportation, energy and housing, a factor which helped the country’s construction industry to register a CAGR of 18.30%. In addition, at the start of 2007 the Brazilian federal government allocated investment of US$285.4 billion for infrastructure development, under the Programade Aceleraçãodo Crescimento (PAC), to be used during 2007–10, and in February 2009, this amount was increased to US$361.1 billion to be used by 2010. The investment was designed to boost the economy and counter the negative effects of the international financial crisis on Brazil. Out of the total US$316.1 billion investment allocated under PAC, US$105.9 billion or 29% was spent in 2010, which in the same year helped the Brazilian construction industry to record strong growth of 28.1%, after experiencing a decline of 1.9% in 2009.
