After witnessing subdued activity in 2009 and 2010, UAE’s construction industry showed signs of stabilizing in 2011. Abu Dhabi remained the focus area for construction activities in the country. Amid the economic slowdown in 2010, the construction industry was awarded fresh contracts valued at US$35.5 billion, 66% of the value of all contracts awarded in the UAE during 2010. The UAE’s construction industry grew at a CAGR of 14.79% over the review period. The growing economy has been fuelling an unprecedented construction boom and infrastructure development in all emirates of the country, especially the capital city Abu Dhabi. The industry has also attracted investors from around the world. The government’s efforts to diversify from oil-based income to other industries are likely to drive the country’s construction investments in coming years as well.
