MOUNT SNOW, VT—Hundreds of volunteers will join together with AbilityPLUS Adaptive Sports and Mount Snow, Vermont on Sunday January 8th to provide a day of freedom and fun for 55 severely impaired Kids of Courage from throughout the nation. AbilityPLUS is a non-profit organization that offers athletic and recreational opportunities for individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities. It provides more than 2,000 snow sport coaching and lesson sessions each winter at its Mount Snow, Vermont facility.
“This is a true community event in the very best spirit of Vermont,” said AbilityPLUS Executive Director David Hauser. “We’re very pleased Kids of Courage has selected AbilityPLUS and Mount Snow to host their winter getaway - we look forward to an incredible day with our volunteer instructors, staff and the entire Kids of Courage group.”
Kids of Courage organizes adventure trips for people with serious illnesses that cause severe physical impairment. Most illnesses are extremely rare and often life threatening. Participants and their aides travel from throughout the country to New York City, where Kids of Courage arranges the trip from New York to Vermont for their Mount Snow adventure.
The day will begin with an 11 am welcome celebration at the Grand Summit Hotel. The public is invited to join AbilityPLUS and Kids of Courage volunteers and staff to kickoff the day.
AbilityPLUS is in its 15th year of enriching the lives of program participants, their families, friends and a growing community of venues and volunteers who work to provide adaptive sports and recreation for individuals with all manner of disabilities. AbilityPLUS is partnered with Disabled Sports USA to serve soldiers with various injuries, including amputations, brain injuries, burns, visual and hearing impairments and all forms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other emotional scars.
AbilityPLUS has program locations at Mount Snow VT, Atttitash, NH, Wildcat Mountain, NH as well as summer program installations throughout New England.
