Many babies suffer from acid reflux and spit up a lot. This puts a lot stress on the parents, as thex have to ensure that their baby gets enough milk. Many women today feed their babies with formula but Dr. Dwight McCoy, an expert in reflux diseases, states that this is the wrong way: "Many mothers feel awkward when feeding their baby in public. They are afraid of strange looks and thus avoid breastfeeding their baby in public. I treated a lot of babies suffering from acid reflux and after asking the parents, it became clear that most babies with acid reflux are fed with formula and not with their mother's milk."
Furthermore, breastfeeding leads to a better relationship between mother and newborn, says McCoy. On his website on Acid reflux, he shows what to do if the baby doesn't nurse. "Many parents told me at their nex visit that their baby is a lot happier now and gains much more weight than before", tells Dr. McCoy.
Dr. Dwight McCoy doctorated in 1982 at the University of Harvard and moved along with his wife to Germany. In August 2011 he moved back to New York to open his own doctor's office. He is highly specialized in reflux diseases and launched his website http://acidreflux4u.com to share his knowledge.
