Adopted Bijan Lights the Night at Discovery Green
Dog Leads Fundraiser Team to Battle Blood Cancers on October 9
(HOUSTON, Texas – October 9, 2010) On Saturday, October 9, teams of families, friends, co-workers, and local and national corporations will gather to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's nationwide Light The Night Walk events to bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers. In Houston, a special furry family member lead his fundraiser team through thousands of illuminated, red, white, and gold balloons at Discovery Green Park.
“I knew Frankie would be a good team leader to help raise funds, because people can’t resist a white, fluffy dog," says Brenda Cheney his owner. Cheney, a survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, adopted Frankie a year ago. “Each Light The Night walker is encouraged to become a ‘Champion For Cures’ by raising $100 or more, and Houston’s goal is to raise $700,000,” says Cheney.
“Frankie was surrendered by his former parent who was battling fourth-stage cancer, so we have made it our mission to find cures for cancers,” says Cheney. Frankie was put up for adoption through the Citizens of Animal Protection (CAP) a rescue organization in Houston when his owner could no longer physically care for him. Now, this Bijan is on an alpha-dog mission to conquer cancers by participating in fundraisers.
