February 28, 2010

Miami, FL February 27, 2010. Youth blogtalk radio show, Conflict Corner, will host guest, Adoption Specialist, Ronald Mumford on the next show.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 28, 2010 -- Adoption guidelines and procedures will be discussed on the show March 3rd at 6:00 P.M. by Ronald Mumford, an Adoption Specialist. With the influx of Haitian children to arrive in Miami following the earthquake, Mumford is helping Miami residents understand the adoption process. The second show will highlight personal stories of adopting parents and adoptees.

As part of an effort to assist Haiti following the earthquake, hundreds of children left to fend for themselves are being brought to the United States. Accompanying the decision by the state and federal government to assist these survivors, both Miami and Broward residents are vieing to help these children but need to understand the process. Ronald Mumford will answer the ‘who, what, when and wheres of adopting. He comments, “ Due to the seriousness of the crisis, Miami-Dade County residents need to be readying for the influx of children from Haiti. We (Charlee Homes for Children) can’t give a head count of numbers of youth expected, however, we can help families anticipating adopting.” Mr. Mumford will explain the MAPP, Model Approach to Partnership and Parenting, a federal requirement for citizens looking to adopt. He is one of the instructors of this ten week course. So far, Broward agencies, Kids in Distress and Catholic Charities, has received sixty children; and His House in Dade has approximately seventy-five. He also pointed out that there are many ways that others can do their part even if not adopting. Other entities such as Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Carol City have continued to support by assisting communities in Haiti even prior to the earthquake. Too, adoption agencies are soliciting Creole speakers as communication even with the arriving adults, is a challenge. Part II will air on March 17th.

Wingspan Seminars’ youth coordinators are collecting stuffed animals for their Hugs for Haiti Campaign to give the children something warm to hold on to. Commission Audrey Edmondson is supporting this initiative that will assist the youth as they collect from the police and fire departments in Maimi-Dade.
