AFAA Earns Accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC)

(Free-Press-Release.com) March 1, 2010 -- Sherman Oaks, CA — The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), the nation's premiere accrediting organization for distance learning institutions, voted in its January 16 meeting to grant an award of accreditation to the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.

This award of recognized national accreditation was made after an exhaustive review of AFAA by the DETC, in which all aspects of the organization were thoroughly evaluated by peer-group evaluators and independent curriculum experts.

The DETC Accrediting Commission has been listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency since 1959. DETC is also a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Accreditation is the nation's principal means to identify reliable and reputable educational institutions. Accreditation is also a badge of quality, and it assists institutions in attaining excellence by using a set of standards developed by peers. Accredited status means that an educational institution lives up to its promises to course participants and the public. It means that the education that a participant receives at an accredited institution has real value.

DETC – Located in Washington, D.C., the Distance Education and Training Council is a non-profit educational association founded in 1926. The independent nine-member Accrediting Commission of the DETC was established in 1955. It has the approval of the U.S. Department of Education as the “nationally recognized accrediting agency” under terms of Public Law; and it is recognized as an Accrediting Commission by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
