http://www.kalilahyoungreaders.com The chapter book about an African princess chronicles the adventures of Kalilah who is kidnapped from her royal home at birth to prevent an arranged marriage. King Abdul and Queen Noemi promise their daughter to wed Prince Zahgee when they grow up. Little Prince Zahgee's assistant, Techee has plans of her own. She has the princess kidnapped the night she is born. The scheme doesn't go exactly as planned and the orphaned baby washes ashore on a remote jungle island. A wise woman names the baby, Kalilah, and she is raised by free-spirited village dancers. Kalilah grows up with the ability to talk to and understand the animals of the jungle. Her dream to dance and find true love across the sea finally comes true. In the city, Kalilah finds romance with a handsome grown-up Prince Zahgee. When betrayal by a childhood friend leads Kalilah back into the sinister hands of Techee who wants more than revenge, will Prince Zahgee save Kalilah in time?
In response to the rejection of their CGI/3D animation screenplay with the same name co-authors Sabrina L. Wright and Dexter Griffin transformed the script for 'Kalilah: The Whispered Promise' into a young reader chapter book. The book includes a glossary with African words like "jambo" which is Swahili for "hello" and "moja" which is Swahili for the number "one". We added the glossary of words because we live in a time when sharing cultures and languages have become popular amongst chidren. Dora the Explorer teaches Spanish and Kalilah teaches Swahili”, says Wright.
Sabrina L. Wright is the founder of First Sight Publishing. Her partner Dexter Griffin has written for the shows Amen and The Simpsons. For more information visit: www.kalilahyoungreaders.com.
