CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH IN ROGERS PARK - Chicago, IL
February 26, 2012—“AFRICANAMERICAN FAMILY REUNION” is the theme of our event at the Loyola Park Field House. We will honor the accomplishments of many notable African-American heroes.
This community event will kick off by honoring the African-American Military Service men and woman from the Buffalo Soldiers, Tuskegee Airmen, Triple Nickel, Black Paratroopers and Vietnam Veterans.
The keynote address will be presented by Harold Bellamy (Retired Buffalo Soldier of the 6th Infantry), and Tuskegee Airman, Rufus Hunt.
There will be fun-filled demonstrations for children, Caricature drawing by legendary artist Bill Jackson (http://www.squidoo.com/my-black-history), a special African-American Book collection presented by Write Press News (www.writepressnews.com) and live coverage of the event by Chicago’s own CAN-TV Issues & Artists station (www.issuesandartists.org).
Entertainment highlights include creative performances by Survivors from Haiti (www.surivivorsmusic.com), Full Effect Dance Theatrical Dance Company (Dane Campbell Director) (http://www.feetdco.com/homefeetdco.html), Edvette and Althea Teamer, Sax Preacher, and Rev. Vernetta Rogers. We will enjoy the soulful sounds of Joyce Renee Walker and Loretta Lee.
Craft and Artisans will be on hand selling distinctive products related to urban business.
A community meal will be served. This event is free and open to the public. Ceremonies will commence promptly at 12:00 Noon with a procession by the Council of Elders and a special libation.
