After Redevelopment is Gone, What’s Next? OPIS Network Finding Solutions
California's Governor Brown has spoken and the state’s Redevelopment Agencies are in their final days, along with hundreds of employees. Can Redevelopment be done in better ways?
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 23, 2012 --
Newport Beach, CA. The California Redevelopment Agencies have been part of the state’s economy for over 60 years, but those days are numbered. Cities that are struggling with reduced income and growing debt will be forced to lay off employees as part of the economic or development departments. There may be solutions and OPIS Network , a Newport Beach consulting company that provides community outreach programs to cities, is seeking a way.
OPIS since 2010 has been offering a free13-week business strategy program called “helping 100 businesses for 100 days” throughout Southern California. Participating cities have included Santa Ana, twice in 2010, Buena Park, San Bernardino and most recently, Newport Beach in 2011 and 2012. The city of Costa Mesa will conduct the same program in March to help their challenged business owners. This is a service that OPIS provides for cities at no added expense through their foundation, Build as One.
With that background OPIS is developing a consortium of business and civic leaders along with those involved in city administration to come up with ways to refocus the program with more positive results. OPUS believes that redevelopment can be structured as a partnership with cities and chambers of commerce along with private enterprise to create ways to make economic development a revenue source, rather than a debt service . Many of those employees at risk of termination are requested to provide their input.
Interested parties should contact Norm Bour, Community Development Director for OPIS network at 949-495-6162 or e-mail to norm@OPISmail.com.
