Torrance, Calif. — As Baby Boomers transition from their late 50s into their 60s, many find themselves fighting a losing battle against the degenerative effects of aging. Preventing — and even reversing — these effects is possible with stress reduction, exercise, anti-inflammatory hormonally balanced diets and nutraceuticals. Another tactic growing in popularity to combat the degenerative effects of aging is bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.
According to Age Management Expert Dr. Judi Goldstone, hormone levels begin to drop off in a person’s early 30s. Bio-identical hormone therapy seeks to replace declining hormones to early adulthood levels with hormones that have the same chemical structure as those produced by the human body.
“The human body produces hormones that tell our organs and bodies to function in optimal ways,” Dr. Goldstone says. “We’re typically healthier during our youth and early adult years when our bodies are producing ‘adult’ levels of various hormones.”
As people age, many find themselves frequently tired, overweight and stressed out. “Difficulty sleeping, hot flashes, low self-esteem and decreased libido are other signs of declining hormone levels,” Dr. Goldstone says. “The effects people in their 30s, 40s, 50s and upward attribute to aging are likely due to declining hormone levels.”
Dr. Goldstone begins her treatment by conducting an in-depth medical history, physical exam and laboratory analysis for each patient. “Once I receive the results I can determine whether the person would be a good candidate for bio-identical hormone replacement therapy,” she says.
Following the comprehensive evaluation, she explains all aspects of diet, nutraceutical supplementation, stress reduction, exercise and bio-identical hormone replacement pertaining to the patient’s individualized program. The patient is then supplemented and balanced for the best possible benefit. “To ensure optimal results, follow-up examinations, including lab tests and a review of the patient’s symptoms, should take place every three months during the first year,” Dr. Goldstone says. “After the first year, the patient’s response to the therapy will determine the length of time between follow-up visits.”
