Keynote: Paul McHale, McKenna Long & Aldridge, Former U.S. Congressman

ATLANTA, August 7, 2008 – The new governments in the U.S. and Israel are both facing economic and geopolitical issues, strongly affecting U.S. - Israel business relationships. But Israel’s strong high tech sector has spurred investment by many U.S. companies, including Microsoft, Cisco, IBM and Johnson & Johnson. On Thursday, August 27, the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce (AICC) will present its 12th Annual Professional Seminar, “Economic Uncertainty: Opportunities for and with Israeli Companies.”

The Professional Seminar is designed for members of the legal, accounting, real estate, and financial professions to give them effective tools to serve their clients pursuing business interests in the Southeast and Israel. It runs from 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Selig Center in Midtown Atlanta (1440 Spring Street). Organized by the AICC’s Professional Committee, the half-day seminar is the organization’s premier annual educational event.

Companies in the Southeast are partnering with Israelis for joint ventures that offer new market opportunities and economies -- as well as continued growth of Israeli companies choosing the region for their U.S. or regional operations.

Former U.S. Congressman Paul McHale will be the keynote luncheon speaker for the event. A former Assistant Secretary of Defense, McHale is now Of Counsel with the Washington, DC office of McKenna Long & Aldridge. He will discuss opportunities and challenges for Israeli companies to participate in projects supported by Federal Economic Stimulus Funding in areas such as water, energy, healthcare and security where they clearly have technological advantages.

The Professional Seminar will also feature:

-- Special Israeli Company Presentation: Tel Aviv-based Spirocor has developed an innovative diagnostic tool that evaluates a person's cardiovascular system in minutes and assesses the risk of a cardiovascular event such as a stroke or heart attack. A panel of experts will guide Spirocor CEO Gavriel Merom in his effort to take this Israeli start up’s technology to the U.S. market from its Atlanta base.
-- Case study - 2009 Eagle Star "Deal of the Year" winners EMS Technologies and Starling, a joint venture to create airborne satellite antenna systems for in-flight entertainment service providers.
-- Israeli Executive Roundtable - Discussing the impact of the economy and special challenges it presents to Israeli companies with U.S. operations.
-- Israeli Tax and Economic Perspectives

Cost for participation is $90 for members and $100 for non-members, and professional continuing education credits can be earned by attorneys, accountants, and real estate professionals.  Sponsorships are also available for $500.  Contact tom@aiccse.org for further information.
